This workshop is organised and run by 21 Plus. Using Colour and Shape Coding to Scaffold Literacy for Pupils with Down Syndrome is suitable for all staff involved in teaching and supporting pupils with Down syndrome in both mainstream and special educational settings at primary and secondary stages.

The workshop will be delivered online. The workshop will last for approximately one hour, with 30 minutes for questions.

The session will cover:

  • Profile of learners with Down Syndrome
  • What is Colourful Semantics?
  • What is Shape Coding?
  • Why does this type of approach help pupils with Down syndrome?
  • How can it be used across the curriculum?
  • How do we introduce it to pupils?
  • How do we build on it?

Our speaker is from from 21 Plus. Nicky Williams will lead the session. Nicky, and her colleague Victoria, run the 21 Plus school support service as well as running the Talk Time and Talk About groups.
